A Budding Writer

This morning, as I headed into the playroom, ready for breakfast, I found Sophia writing in her journal. I asked if she was ready for breakfast, and she quickly told me, “No, I’m doing my writing.”

I am not one to interrupt writing, so I sat down on the floor to have a peek at her notebook. Izzie had been helping her with the date and how to spell words. But Sophia was doing most of the work. She was a true writer as she stopped to reread her writer. She was a true writer as she stopped to sound out a word. My little girl was seeing value in writing.

My heart was full as I watched her, not wanting to interrupt the process. I have always encouraged reading and writing with my girls. They are two of my favorite things to do. But, seeing Sophia choose to write on her own absolutely made my day!

  1. It should make your day. You have obviously provided the seeds that led to this moment. Kudos to you and your budding writers.

  2. You’ve inspired a new writer in your family. Congratulations on fostering the love of writing in your daughters. My own daughter ended up to be a high school English teacher and it grew from her love of language and reading. (Thank you Harry Potter!)I can only I played a small role in it.
